How IGF-1 Is Harmful

Do you have kids? I have 4 daughters; my second youngest just turned 11, but she started developing when she was 8! I know people whose daughters have gone through puberty even earlier than that! As a mom, the fact that some company has decided to place UNTESTED chemicals into products that my children NEED in their diet is absolutely…well I don’t even have words for how angry this makes me! All to line their own pockets with my hard earned money. Think about it…we may as well be paying someone to poison our own children! I don’t know about you, but I want my children safe and healthy, not sick or diseased!

Even scarier is that this phenomenon is not natural….the food industry has added so many hormones to the cows that it has affected the growth rate of the next generation.

A company named Monsanto manufactures a genetically manufactured hormone called rBGH, and they’ve been bullying farmers into injecting their cows with it so that they produce more milk. To hide the fact that rBGH carries risks, Monsanto uses its corporate influence to hide the truth from consumers. Believe it or not, Monsanto has actually sued those who “dare” to place a label on their dairy products that state rBGH was not used. They are knowingly putting our children at risk, and punishing those who attempt to let us know their products are safe to feed to our kids!

The use of rBGH increases the amount of Insulin-like Growth Factor – 1 (IGF-1) in our milk, and the pasteurization process increases it even more. While IGF-1 is a natural occurring hormone in both cows and humans, it is normally bound to proteins. When we drink it in our milk, it is unbound, so our bodies are unable to digest it. Instead, it is absorbed through our intestines into our bloodstream. From there it affects other hormones in our bodies.

IGF-1 increases the growth rate of infants, promotes premature breast development in young children, and increases our risks of cancer. The use of rBGH has been banned in Canada and many European countries due to its health risks. Yet, the United States keeps consumers in the dark, reassuring us by stating that there are no risks. Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t these all risks?! The FDA and Monsanto have decided FOR US that they aren’t. I’m not sure I trust either one of them to have the best interests of my children at heart. Therefore, it is up to us, as parents, to keep ourselves informed.

Studies have shown that women with higher levels of IGF-1 in their blood have a higher risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer; it’s also linked to prostate cancer and colon cancer. Yet the FDA has made it a requirement to include a statement that milk with rBGH is not any worse than milk without rBGH on “rBGH Free” labels.

Why is the FDA being so blatantly blind and misleading about the potential dangers of rBGH and IGF-1? Because they are corrupt!! The people making these decisions within the FDA are the same people that used to work for Monsanto. With Monsanto’s history of bribery and threats, it isn’t hard to figure out who is really pulling the FDA’s strings.

Now that we all know the harmful effects that rBGH and high levels of IGF-1 can have on our children, how do we buy milk that was produced without the hormone? This is actually the easy part. 🙂 First of all, let me mention that both Walmart and Kroger store brand milk do not contain rBGH. Therefore, they are safe to drink.

You can also start buying organic milk. Organic milk is safe for our children; by definition, organic milk cannot contain rBGH because it is a genetically engineered hormone. You can check in your local supermarket for organic milk, or check local farms in your area; many of them sell milk to the general public.

Virtually all of whatever you assert happens to be supprisingly accurate and it makes me ponder why I hadn’t looked at this in this light before. Your piece really did switch the light on for me as far as this issue goes.

Why is it safe to give our kids any hormone infested milk. Let them grow to their natural potential. Milk is like giving our kids steroids it’s wrong and unhealthy. Anything high in protein like meat eggs and soy raise igf-1 a lot. That’s why I rarely eat tofu and am vegan. It’s better to give children what they need to grow big – vitamins minerals trace minerals and phytonutrients than to force feed them the equivalent of steroids. Most kids hate milk anyways.
