BHT & BHA

BHT and BHA Dangers

Processed foods contain a variety of chemicals to help preserve them. Among these are Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) and Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA). Both BHT and BHA are dangerous to our children’s health and are completely unnecessary.

With the new “craze” (I call it a craze because I think it’s a load of BS) of ADHD and ADD, parents should be watching what they are feeding to their children. It’s funny, isn’t it, that so many parents feed their children hyped up sugary snacks, then throw them on drugs for this new “disease” that’s causing them to be “overly hyper”??

Now it’s not only the parent’s at fault for causing hyperactivity in children…the preservatives used in the foods being touted as “healthy” for our children are partially responsible for this “epidemic”! BHT and BHA are known to cause hyperactivity in children. By avoiding foods containing these unnecessary preservatives, parents can help improve the hyperactivity levels…without the use of drugs.

In addition to causing hyperactivity in children, BHT and BHA are considered carcinogens by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Yet the FDA allows them to be used in foods?! What’s wrong with this picture???

It seems that the more I research, the more I find out that the Food and Drug Administration is no longer interested in what they were created to do. The FDA is supposed to research foods and drugs to make sure everything sold to the public is safe for human use and consumption; however, so many dangerous food ingredients are being marked as “safe” when there is research to the contrary.

Obviously, the FDA has been corrupted by politics and the all powerful dollar. But, because of greed and political manipulations, our children, our FUTURE, are being endangered!

In the last 40 years or so, the rate of children with cancer has increased by 50%! This is not a coincidence!! Think about the fact that BHA and BHT have both been found to cause cancer in laboratory animals, and even the US DHHS says they are unsafe for human consumption, yet the FDA states that they are safe to be used in the foods we eat.

We can protect our children! Read the labels of everything you buy; if it says it contains BHT or BHA, put it back.

I think before u act as though you know what you’re talking about why don’t you do some research. I feel you have no idea about adhd or add. While feeding your kids sugary snacks certainly doesn’t help, adhd is real. My children suffer from add as well as myself. We eat nothing but organic, whole foods. I feel that you are uneducated on the subject and I found it offensive . You have no idea what it’s like trying to live with this. While I share your thoughts on the dangers that are added in food, I completely disagree with your sarcastic, ignorant take on something you clearly know nothing about.

Not only is BHA and BHT dangerous to regular children it is extremely dangerous and harmful to adults and children with asthma and allergies. For 3/4 years now I’ve had a mysterious rash that my gynecologist kept diagnosing as a yeast infection. Nothing helped it. A friend of mine who has food sensitivities asked if I had been eating cereal with BHA or BHT in it. It would make her mouth numb and swell. A few days after I stopped eating the cereal the rash I had suffered 2 years with, went away. As I went back to eating these preservatives occasionally, I have developed eczema on my hands and cannot get rid of it. I’ve also had the worst asthma symptoms I’ve had in my entire 40 years. I refuse to buy another product with this garbage in it. I will however be buying whole foods only from now on. It’s not worth the risks. These cereal companies are delusional that this product is not harmful for human consumption.

Why isn’t this publicized? These days 1 in 3 has cancer. 10 years ago it was 1 in 20.

I mostly agree with you, but ADHD is definitely real, it does not only occur in children, and hyperactivity isn’t the only symptom. Also, sugar doesn’t cause hyperactivity.
